Description

This course examines the interaction between individuals, groups and the organization in the accomplishment of organizational goals and objectives. It looks to assist students in understanding and predicting the performance of individuals and ultimately the organization in which they work. As an advanced course in management, the course is conducted in a seminar format drawing on case studies, organizational experiences of students, Internet research, and readings. Topics discussed in depth include perception and learning, motivation and work-related attitudes, group processes and work teams, organizational communication and decision making, interpersonal behavior, influence, power, politics and leadership.

Course Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will:
  • Have a knowledge and understanding of organizational behavior and its impact on organizational performance, especially in today's business environment.
  • Identify and assimilate the theory/practice covered in this course with real world work situations.
  • Describe the impact of perception, individual approaches to learning, ability and personality and their affect on performance.
  • Examine how motivation and job satisfaction are affected by leadership/management practices, policies and job characteristics. Recognize the importance of roles, norms, status and cohesiveness within organizations.
